I H Tripoli - Elite
School and city profile:

Tripoli is the capital of Libya, the third largest country in Africa with a population of just over 6 million. Tripoli has a population of around 1.5 million and is situated on the shores of the Mediterranean of which Libya has 1,864 kilometers of coastline, a perfect place for diving enthusiasts.

After years of political isolation, Libya is now undergoing massive changes in the education, construction, banking and private sector industries. A very promising future lies ahead for Libya in the tourist sector and already there is a growing tourist trade with people visiting sites such as Leptis Magna, Sebrata and towns in the Sahara.

Tripoli is a very safe city with a fairly good, cheap transportation system though the driving can be erratic. The local people are very friendly and most speak some English.

The school opened in 2001 to offer quality affordable English to all. Over the years we have built up an excellent reputation in delivering good quality English plus a caring environment in a relaxed and informal atmosphere. Every student is a valid member of the school community and we encourage students to respect each others opinions and beliefs. The school has contacts with important oil companies and around 40% of the school population are company sponsored students.

We have moved to a bigger premises and have introduced interactive white boards in some of the classrooms, we will also have a small self-access centre, bigger resource room and staff room, students conversation area and coffee shop. We are presently working on authorisation from Cambridge to run computer based exams in our new premises. This is certainly an exciting time to be in Libya and at our school.

There is a large ex-pat community, where the social life can be quite busy, depending on the time of year. Teachers also get to meet locals when working at school and are often invited to student’s homes to taste the delicious Libyan cuisine.
